Get the facts: the food you are giving your pet today could well cause health problems tomorrow. For despite considerable advances in food processing and manufacturing, most commercial pet foods are filled with a disturbing combination of poor quality meats, inorganic preservatives and indigestible filler. Not convinced? If you believe your chosen pet food is safe, consider some of the ingredients commonly found in popular name-brand canned and kibble products: - chicken beaks, feathers, and feet - flesh from euthanized dogs and cats - roadkill - cancerous meats from cattle dead prior to slaughter - artificial colours, additives and preservatives, many of which are believed to be toxic Keep in mind that when we say that commercial pet foods are less than ideal, we are not referring to no-name foods or brands the average consumer has already dismissed as unhealthy. Almost without exception, the noxious ingredients we refer to (disguised by misleading names like "poultry by-product meal") can be found in the foods available at your pet shop, grocery store, and veterinarian's office. In a recent book, The Nature of Animal Healing, Dr. Martin Goldstein chose four dog foods at random and found many of the above ingredients in them. Which brands? Ken-L Ration, Purina, IAMS, and Science Diet. The latter is for sale in veterinarian offices across the country.
